Baklava, Delicious Dessert with Walnuts

Ingredients:

1 box (16 oz.) phyllo dough
16 oz.  walnuts, chopped
1 tsp. cinnamon, ground
1/2 cup honey
1 cup melted butter
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. lemon zest, grated
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 lemon, juiced

Directions:

Coat the 13 x 9 inch baking pan with butter, preheat oven to 350 F.

Mix together walnuts and cinnamon in a bowl. Cut the dough to 9x13 inches pieces (to fit the pan). Place two pieces of dough in the bottom of the pan and brush with melted butter. Layer the 3 tsp. of nuts and cinnamon mixture on dough. Next place 2 pieces of dough, butter it and nuts mixture again. Continue to do this until all walnuts are layered. Finish with 5 pieces of dough.

Cut the baklava with sharp knife, 4 rows in one direction and 4 in other, to get 36 diamond shaped baklavas. Place in heated oven and bake for 50 - 55 minutes.

Meanwhile, mix together water and sugar and place over medium high heat, when sugar melts, add in vanilla, lemon zest and honey, stir to combine. Reduce the heat and cook for 20 minutes, when done, stir in lemon juice.

When done, remove baklava from oven, quickly spoon the prepared mixture over the top and let it cool down.

Enjoy.
